Due to the typhoon, the sharing on photography books indepedent publishing and distruibuting would be held in Sept. We invited Ling Chung (Founder and Editor of brownie publishing) and Verónica Bencomo (Artist and Founder of Foto-Féminas) to share their experience and views with us.
____________________________________________________ - Ling Chung x Brownie Publishing - “brownie publishing” is an independent publisher, which works for promoting Hong Kong art of photography and Photobook, so that the public may come to know more outstanding local photographers. Ever since the popularization of cameras and prevalence of social networks, photography has become part of Hong Kong people’s life. Photography as artistic creation, however, seems somewhat remote. We aim at exploring more creative possibilities of ourselves, our environment, and humanities through the medium of photography. https://www.brownie.com.hk/ . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . CHUNG Cheuk-ning (Ling), born and raised in Hong Kong. Founder and editor of “brownie publishing”, an independent publishing company aimed at promoting photography art in Hong Kong. (*The sharing will be conducted in Cantonese, we could help translating when necessary) ____________________________________________________ - Verónica Sanchis Bencomo x Foto Féminas - "Foto Féminas" is a platform promoting the works of Latin American and Caribbean photographers. In addition to the photographic events we organise we recently started our photography library, which looks to promote the editorial works of female photographers from the region. In this opportunity, we will be talking about two books from our library, Los Mundos de Tita by Fabiola Cedillo and B to B by Brenda Moreno. Both artists documented family environments with a universal approach where one can find within the narrative. https://foto-feminas.com/ . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Independent photobooks remain one of the most engaging ways to experience photography because they combine strong visual narratives with thoughtful design. I appreciate initiatives that bring photographers and publishers together to exchange ideas and inspire new projects. Creative tools like Muse Image AI for artistic photography visuals</a> could help creators develop concept artwork, promotional materials, and compelling imagery that complements contemporary photography publications.
I really enjoyed learning about the ideas behind independent photography book publishing and how it creates space for diverse artistic voices. Events like this encourage meaningful conversations about visual storytelling, design, and the creative process. Platforms such as Muse Video AI for photography storytelling could help artists and publishers share behind-the-scenes insights, interviews, and project journeys with a much wider audience.
this is a valuable event on independent photography publishing. the focus on both local hong kong and latin american perspectives through brownie publishing and foto féminas is particularly insightful. it's helpful to see the practical details about the rescheduled dates and the backgrounds of the speakers. such discussions are crucial for understanding the challenges and possibilities within niche publishing.
