【Change Programme Date 】 A Tribute to Director Lung Kong

Please note that the date of programme has changed from 4 Oct to 11 Oct because of the recent social movement.

A Tribute to Director Lung Kong This screening is a tribute to the lately deceased legendary director Mr Lung Kong, the man who brought new momentum into the then stagnant Cantonese film industry; the man who put social issues and even controversies at the core of his movies. We won’t forget how The Story of a Discharged Prisoner (1967) inspired John Wu, or the exciting narratives in Teddy Girls (1969) that led us into better understanding of this group of youth. Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow (1970) together with Hiroshima 28 (1974) might have put the director in a turmoil, yet both serve as important remarks of the era. Mr Lung Kong’s visions and the way he handled Cantonese films are great inspirations to film makers of our time. We have chosen two films directed by Mr Lung Kong to be screened in ACO: Teddy Girls (1969) and Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow (1970). A short video Yesterday? Today? Tomorrow? (2001) by cultural scholar Au-Yeung Shing will also be screened in response to Mr Lung Kong’s contribution. A sharing session will be hosted by ACO after the screening. Our guest speakers will try to recall bits and pieces that are special about Mr Lung Kong as they remember him. The best way of remembering someone is by talking about him. In this particular form of sharing we wish Mr Lung Kong’s legacy could live on. *This event is conducted mainly in Cantonese. English subtitle available for two movies by Lung Kong. **An exhibition of Mr Lung Kong’s pictures is open at the time. Please feel free to contact us for details.
